Guy Edelman, MD and Andrei Rakic, MD Honored At Graduation Dinner

The Department’s annual graduation dinner on Friday, June 13th was a roaring success. Kudos to Nancy Burk, MD, Guy Edelman, MD, Alison Premo, MD, Kadijah Ray, MD, and Frances Kim, MD for putting on a great show at Gibson’s Steakhouse. Honored guests included former head Ron Albrecht, MD, former vice head Behrooz Zahed, MD, and Dr. Les Sandlow, Senior Associate Dean of Educational Affairs and Head of the Department of Medical Education.
Highlights of the evening included two awards bestowed annually to a faculty member and graduating resident, respectively. Guy Edelman, MD was named Outstanding Teacher by the residents, and Andrei Rakic, MD was named winner of the Dripps Award as outstanding senior resident by the faculty. Hearty congratulations to both of them.
Doug Feinstein, PhD President Elect of American Society For Neurochemistry

Dr. Douglas Feinstein, Research Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, is the new president-elect of the American Society for Neurochemistry (ASN). In March 2009, Dr. Feinstein will begin his tenure as president of the society which has approximately 1200 members. The ASN focuses on cellular, biochemical and molecular studies of the nervous system in health and disease, and promotes the career development of young investigators. Dale Pelligrino, PhD, Tapped To Chair Brain Injury Study Section

The Department of Health and Human Services and National Institutes of Health have announced that Dr. Dale Pelligrino has agreed to serve as chairperson of the Brain Injury and Neurovascular Pathologies Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, for the term beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2010.
Dr. Pilar Mercado Joins Anesthesiology Staff

Dr. Pilar Mercado recently joined our staff. Pilar is currently completing a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology in our department. She is a graduate of our medical school, and completed her anesthesiology residency here as well. Welcome, Pilar!
