Mickey Leavy Retires After Lifetime Of Service To Residents
April 30, 2008
It is with sadness, and extreme gratitude for her extensive service, that we announce the retirement of Mickey Leavy, who has acted as Residency Program Coordinator for our residents for as long as we can remember. As the constant link between the Program Director and the residency, she has been a most familiar and reassuring presence to hundreds of anesthesiology residents as they navigated their way through their training. Her dedication and commitment to decades of residents will long be remembered, and we wish her only the best in her retirement.

April 16, 2008
The upcoming May issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia will feature a series of editorials, original research, and case reports highlighting lipid rescue therapy of local anesthetic toxicity. This seminal, lifesaving work originated in Dr. Guy Weinberg's lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Anesthesiology. A tentative list of titles of the articles featured can be found at www.iars.org, and include:
John C. Rowlingson, Lipid Rescue: A Step Forward in Patient Safety? Likely So! (Editorial)
Sorin J. Brull, Lipid Emulsion for the Treatment of Local Anesthetic Toxicity: Patient SafetyImplications (Editorial)

Viktoria D. Mayr, Lukas Mitterschiffthaler, Andreas Neurauter, Christian Gritsch, Volker Wenzel, Tilko Muller, Gunter Luckner, Karl H. Lindner, and Hans-Ulrich Strohmenger A Comparison of the Combination of Epinephrine and Vasopressin with Lipid Emulsion in a Porcine Model of Asphyxial Cardiac Arrest After Intravenous Injection of Bupivacaine (Original Article)
Hugues Ludot, Jean-Yves Tharin, Mohamed Belouadah, Jean-Xavier Mazoit, and Jean-Marc Malinovsky
Successful Resuscitation After Ropivacaine and Lidocaine-Induced Ventricular Arrhythmia Following Posterior Lumbar Plexus Block in a Child (Case Report)
Rainer J. Litz, Thomas Roessel, Axel R. Heller, and Sebastian N. Stehr Reversal of Central Nervous System and Cardiac Toxicity After Local Anesthetic Intoxication by Lipid Emulsion Injection (Case Report)
Julio A. Warren, R. Brian Thoma, Alexandru Georgescu, and Saurin J. Shah Intravenous Lipid Infusion in the Successful Resuscitation of Local Anesthetic-Induced Cardiovascular Collapse After Supraclavicular Brachial Plexus Block (Case Report)
Also in May, the journal Anesthesiology will feature an original article by Dr. Guy Weinberg, titled Resuscitation with Lipid versus Epinephrine in a Rodent Model of Bupivacaine Overdose.
