Overview

The Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is concerned with the diagnosis, management, and study of endocrine, diabetic and metabolic disorders. The latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques are used in the clinical evaluation and management of patients.

A two-year endocrinology fellowship (with optional third year) is offered for training in both the clinical and research aspects of endocrinology and metabolism. Endocrinology conferences include a weekly journal club, research conference, clinical conference, basic science conference, and an endocrinology grand rounds involving the UIH, the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center - West Side, Michael Reese Hospital, Christ Hospital, and affiliated metropolitan hospitals.

Faculty members conduct active research programs in both basic and clinical endocrinology. These include projects in thyroid physiology, thyroid cancer, neuroendocrinology, pituitary disorders, diabetes, metabolic bone disease, obesity and growth factors. The fellowship program aims to provide balance exposure to both the clinical and research aspects of endocrinology.
