UIC Movember 2017
Movember is a movement to raise awareness around men’s health issues by growing facial hair in the month of November as part of a national movement. No-Shave November specifically calls attention to mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer by growing facial hair, which many cancer patients lose. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cancer is one of the leading causes of death for men. UIC’s team -“UIC Got Moustache?”– holds a basketball tournament and resource fair to raise funds on our team page to assist with our Men’s Health initiatives.
UIC Movember 3v3 Basketball Tournament
We are proud to host our second annual Movember 3v3 Basketball Tournament and Men’s Health Resource Fair on Sunday, November 19th. The tournament will take place at the UIC East Campus Student Recreation Facility on 750 S Halstead St at 11:30AM. Jonny Imerman, founder of Imerman Angels, will be the guest speaker before we tip off games.
We hope that by hosting this tournament we can help raise awareness, educate, and empower men about various resources in their community. Some of the organizations that we have partnered with include University of Illinois Cancer Center, Jessa Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago Global Health Alliance, American Cancer Society, and Young Public Health Professionals. All organizations share a common goal, which is to assist men with creating healthy lifestyle.
