The pediatric critical care medicine division covers a 12 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a 9 bed Step-Down Unit in the Children’s Hospital at University of Illinois (CHUI) within the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. This is a busy medical/surgical unit with capacity to cover a broad range of critical illnesses and/or complex diseases in infants, children, and adolescents including respiratory distress and failure, congenital cardiac disease and post-operative care, neurologic emergencies (status epilepticus, increased intracranial pressure), diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney transplant and dialysis, serious infection such as sepsis, and more. Our pediatric critical care unit is staffed by highly skilled nursing and board certified physicians who are dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care.
