Research Interests: Mechanisms of light and dark adaptation in retinal photoreceptors, and development of molecular constructs  that regulate the electrophysiology of neurotransmitter receptors.

Ongoing Research: Design and construction of nanoscale photosensitive molecules that can bind to the ectodomain of specific neurotransmitter receptors of inner retinal neurons and, by modulating receptor activity in response to light, restore light-sensitivity in retina damaged by photoreceptor degenerative disease.

Impact: Out project’s goal is to develop fully chemical, “molecular prosthetic” therapy for application in photoreceptor degenerative diseases such as age-related macular degeneration.
