Sleep Case Conference
Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to sleep patients are discussed in detail along with the relevant literature on a weekly basis at this conference. The Sleep fellow present and lead the discussion of the cases.

Sleep Journal Club/Disease-Oriented Conference
Weekly conference rotates between a sleep-focused journal and a sleep disease-oriented clinical conference. Journal Club goal is to review the latest outstanding sleep research from the literature to keep the audience current on what is happening in the field. Lectures are given by faculty, fellows and outside speakers.

PULMONARY/CRITICAL CARE CONFERENCES

Disease Oriented Clinical Conference
This conference is designed to cover the diseases specified within the pulmonary medicine curriculum over a 3-year period. Lectures are given by faculty, fellows and outside speakers.

Principles of Practical Pulmonary Conference
This weekly conference is a core series of basic physiology and topics not related to a specific disease. Lectures are given by faculty, fellows and outside speakers.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Research Conference
This weekly conference is held each year from September through May and covers all aspects of pulmonary research. Emphasis is on basic and clinical works in progress.

Pulmonary / Critical Care Case Conference
Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy patients are discussed in detail along with the relevant literature on a weekly basis at this conference. The Chief Fellow moderates as fellows and faculty present and discuss cases.

Pulmonary / Critical Care Journal Club
This is a monthly conference on current literature related to clinical pulmonary and critical care topics. The discussion is led by fellows and faculty and focuses on critical appraisal of the study presented to improve the fellow’s ability to assess the validity and applicability of research to their practice.

Multidisciplinary Thoracic Tumor Board Conference
Wednesday 7:30-8:30 am
Location: Oncology Conference Room 1E
This weekly clinical conference addresses the ongoing care of UIC patients with suspected or diagnosed lung cancer and other thoracic pathology. Participants include faculty and fellows from pulmonology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, interventional pulmonology, thoracic surgery and pathology. The goal of this conference is to improve and streamline the care of patients through a multidisciplinary discussion including questions of diagnostic approach, staging and treatment.

There are many conferences at the university on a variety of both clinical and research topics. The Department of Medicine holds many weekly conferences that fellows may attend. These include Medicine Grant Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Ethics Conference, and Autopsy Conference. There are many outstanding regular research conferences that fellows are also encouraged to attend.
