Division of Hematology and Oncology Research
The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is dedicated to providing patients with the most modern treatments and making further advances in the fight against cancer. The Division houses a variety of outstanding programs, such as for solid tumors and hematological malignancies that provide patients with the most-up-to-date treatment, as well as offers new experimental therapies through innovative clinical trials for patients who may have more advanced disease, thanks to a Phase 1 trial-Oncology program.
In addition, the division has a strong interest in non-malignant blood disorders, especially in sickle cell disease with new clinical trials including a successful and curative stem cell transplant protocol without using any chemotherapy for adult patients with advanced sickle cell disease.
Clinical research is performed both by participating in national cooperative studies for cancer and/or stem cell transplant (CALGB,ECOG, SWOG, MPD-RC, BMT-CTN, NMDP, CIBMTR) or by developing innovative studies based on the expertise of faculty members at University of Illinois.
