Molecular Training in Gastroenterology Program (MTGP)
The MTGP provides advanced training in experimental approaches to discover disease mechanisms and explore molecular targets of more efficient treatment of GI disorders. The training program also offers clinical trainees a unique opportunity to develop the necessary skills to apply basic science knowledge to developing novel approaches for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Gastrointestinal disorders. The long-term goal of MTGP is to apply the latest advances in cellular and molecular biology, disease modeling, and animal models to create and translate new knowledge to fulfill the promise of GI healthcare. The training structure is carefully designed to systematically integrate basic and clinical approaches and develop patient and population-based clinical research projects. The training activities are also designed to promote creativity and innovation by emphasizing multidisciplinary approaches to tackling important problems in gastrointestinal healthcare approaches. Mentors from different divisions and departments will provide state-of-the-art training program for basic/clinical-scientist pre- and postdoctoral trainees. Working across the boundaries and integration of skills from traditional scientific disciplines will provide an optimal level of cross-training between basic, translational and clinical science.

The program objective is to provide training for predoctoral (PhD and MD/PhD graduate students) and post-doctoral fellows (MD and PhD scientists) in cutting-edge approaches to Gastroenterology.
