Continuity Clinic Sites
There are three family medicine centers, the Family Medicine Center at University Village, the Pilsen Family Health Center, and Mile Square Health Center. They both play an integral part in the training of our residents. Together, they provide the settings for residents during their three years of training. Their differences complement each other, providing a combination of training in both a predominately insured population and a primarily undeserved urban environment.
The Family Medicine Center at University Village
Located at 722 W. Maxwell Street, this center serves a diverse population, and sees largely working-age adults, students and their dependents. It provides an extensive array of services, including adult medicine; maternity care; women’s health; pediatrics; geriatrics; occupational medicine; sports medicine; wellness promotion; and disease prevention. Residents, attending physicians, family nurse practitioners; doctors of pharmacy, to deliver comprehensive family care. The Center sees over 40,000 patients annually in a modern and wired facility. Mile Square Health Center
Located one block from the University of Illinois Hospital, Mile Square, a federally qualified health center serves Chicago’s Near West Side, an economically challenged urban community. The population includes many families with young children, as well as a geriatric population with multiple chronic health needs. The team approach is also evident at Mile Square, where a variety of health care professionals work with the physicians to provide true community-oriented primary care. University of Illinois Hospital (UIH)
University of Illinois Hospital is a modern, 540 bed hospital dedicated in 1980. It is home to residencies in virtually every medical and surgical specialty. Family Medicine residents complete the majority of their rotations here. During the PGY1 level, on in-patient rotations, they participate fully & equally with their fellow residents from other departments. In the PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3 levels, our residents work on the Family Medicine inpatient services; patients here are admitted and managed by Family Medicine faculty and residents; other specialties serve mainly in the consultant role, thus modeling private practice. Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs (JBVA) Medical Center
Located on the west side of campus, JBVA is a 435 bed medical center that serves as one of the University’s primary teaching sites for medical students, residents, and other health professions. Family Medicine residents spend about 12% of their rotations at JBVA, including Outpatient Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, Medicine Intensive Care Unit, Dermatology, ENT and Ophthalmology. Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services
Gibson Area Hospital is a critical access hospital Located in Gibson, IL. This central IL location also serves the region with medical clinics in 9 area communities. Pilsen Family Health Center
Located at 1713 S Ashland Ave, the Pilsen Family Health Center provides comprehensive, full-spectrum Family Medicine care in the heart of a primarily Spanish-speaking neighborhood of Chicago. Providers care for entire families, from newborn care to geriatrics, and everything in between. It provides services including, but not limited to, disease prevention, reproductive health, pregnancy care, pediatrics, chronic disease management, and LGBTQ+ inclusive care.
