PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM: Students must have completed their M3 Core Clerkship in Medicine.

INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: Students will participate in the PICU service as a member of a multidisciplinary team including the pediatric intensivist, pediatric housestaff (2), clinical pharmacy, nursing, social work, and specialists in relevant disciplines such as pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology, etc. The student will round with the team and attend general pediatric conferences as well as the smaller talks relating to pediatric critical care. They will also work-up and follow patients in the PICU under the direction of the pediatric house staff and the attending in PICU. Goals will include learning an approach to the patient with multiple organ system failure and learning practical application of physiology to critically ill patients.
ASSESSMENT: Clinical performance is assessed by interaction with the attending.
