Barry I. Wenig, M.D., MPH, Ph.D., FACS is widely respected, board-certified otolaryngologist and director of the Head and Neck Surgery Center. He also is involved with the University of Illinois Cancer Center. At both facilities, he treats patients with malignant and benign tumors of the head and neck, with the goal of eradicating cancer while maintaining quality of life issues such as speech and swallowing function. Dr. Wenig is a nationally recognized expert in robotic surgery as well, and serves as part of a multidisciplinary team of surgeons and other clinicians that treats patients at the Head and Neck Cancer Center. Dr. Wenig coordinates care of head and neck cancer patients.
A graduate of the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, Rush University School of Medicine, and residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, then fellowship training in head and neck surgical oncology at The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He also earned an MPH in Health Policy Administration from the University of Illinois, and is completing a Ph.D. in Health Information Management at the University as well. His list of publications is deep and impressive, numbering more than 100 articles and more than 20 book chapters. Dr. Wenig is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and has been active with a number of professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Rhinologic Society, American Head and Neck Society, and American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Wenig treats patients with squamous cell carcinoma, thyroid cancer and benign lesions, salivary gland disorders, as well as other benign and malignant problems of the head and neck.
